I am interested in knowing what movies you have watched and what you enjoyed or not. So please send me an email at scinema@earthlink.net if you'd like to share. Here's what I watched last week:
Enjoyed:
United States of Tara season one (2009)
77th Emmy Awards 09/14/2025 - How could I not enjoy a show that begins with Stephen Cobert getting a standing ovartion, and then winning an award. Even better is seeing Hannah Einbinder of Hacks getting an award along with Jean Smart. While host Nate Bargatze didn't get any big laughs, he did keep things moving along pleasantly.
Unbelievable (2023) - The 77th Emmy Awards began with a sketch in which Nate Bargatze played the inventor of television urging his colleagues to not give up, predicting that in the future there would be many different channels. There will be a cooking channel for cooking, a food network for food and an History Channel. For History? No, for aliens.Well, is that better than what they used to call it a few years ago - "The Hitler Channel", for seeming contiuous coverage of World War 2? Any way, I was thinking about what to put on when I came across a marathon of Unbelievable, hosted by Dan Aykroyd. I was surprised at how interesting it was, so I kept it on.
Did not enjoy:
LINEWATCH (2008) - If you are a fan of the action films of the 1970s, then you might enjoy this flick directed by Kevin Bray. This has most of the elements found in those movies - except that his imperialed wife and child aren't killed by the bad guys. Cuba Gooding, Jr.is a former gang-banger who has remade his life as a border patrol officer in New Mexico. A violent incident turns out to be affiliated with his old gang. Recognized, Gooding and his family are soon being threatened by the old gang, who force Gooding to participate in a smuggling action. Naturally, it all builds up to Gooding going rogue and killing just about all of the bad guys. Luckily his sympathetic boss at the BP, Dean Norris, shows up in the end to cover for his illegal actions.

Angel Rivera Highly enjoyed:
"THE CHASE" (1966)
In honor of the late Robert Redford, I thought I would watch a movie I had not seen in a long time. This was the star-studded, "The Chase" (1966). A real "potboiler." The film based on a Horton Foote novel and play, had a screenplay credited to Lillian Hellman and was directed by Arthur Penn. It featured Redford as a recently escaped convict who ends up going home after the other escapee he was with kills a man and takes off in the stolen car of the murdered man and leaves Redford to fend for himself. In the small Texas town from which Redford or "Bubba Reeves" (his character) hails Marlon Brando is the sheriff. His wife is portrayed by Angie Dickinson. Brando was appointed to the job by rich banker and land owner Val Rogers played by E. G. Marshall who practically owns the town. Bubba has a wife whom he is hoping will help him portrayed by Jane Fonda. But unknown to him, Fonda has been having an affair with their childhood friend, Jake Rogers, son of Val Rogers played by James Fox. Other outstanding roles are: Robert Duvall as the vice president of the bank, who latently caused the Redford character to be sent to reform school as Bubba is blamed for stealing merchandise. Janice Rule, who plays Duvall's sex hungry wife. (Ms. Rule will be featured in the Matt Helm picture, :The Ambushers" (1967) There is a lot of "sex" and violence going on in the film which leads to a striking conclusion.
"DOC HOLLYWOOD" (1991)
A confection starring Michael J. Fox at the height of his popularity. Fox is Ben Stone a young doctor who after crashing into a fence is sentenced to community service in a small Southern town. Stone begins to meet the characters of the town , especially the driver of the ambulance of the town, Lou played by Julie Warner. Other featured characters are the town's mayor played by David Ogden Stiers; his daughter, portrayed by Bridget Fonda; Fox's romantic rival played by Woody Harrelson and the old cantankerous town's doctor played by Barnard Hughes. A delightful little film.
