I am interested in knowing what movies you have watched and what you enjoyed or not. So please send me an email at scinema@earthlink.net if you'd like to share. Here's what I watched last week:

Enjoyed:

Right To Offend: The Black Comedy Revolution part two Contemporaries (2022)

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season six (2019)

Gossip (2021) - A four part series on Showtime mostly focusing on Cindy Adams of The New York Post, but examining how the success of tabloid newspapers changed the nature of the reporting of the "News". This especially occurred after Rupert Murdoch bought control of The New York Post, which he eventually turned into A Current Affair on Fox TV - the success of which led to the creation of The Fox New Channel.

Angel Rivera Enjoyed:

"THE OUTER LIMITS" Episode: "I, ROBOT" (1964)
Recently I purchased a copy of Dark Horse's "EC Archives" edition reprinting "Incredible Science Fiction" which reprinted the comic book adaptations of the first three Adam Link stories; it made me want to revisit the Outer Limits episode "I,ROBOT" which adapted the first two Adam Link stories. Still holds up even though the ending of the OL version differs from that of the original short stories. It makes for an excellent drama. It plays like "Inherit the Wind." It features the talents of Howard da Silva as a Spencer Tracy type lawyer, and a pre Star Trek Leonard Nimoy.as the Gene Kelly reporter. Marianna Hill who would later costar in a Clint Eastwood western rounds out the cast as the attractive female relative of the deceased, Professor Link. Adam Link, a robot is put on trial for the murder of his creator, (of which he is obviously innocent). Thus the parallels to "Inherit, the Wind." Very well done!

"MERMAIDS" (1990)
Rewatching this which I haven't seen since the 1990s, one forgets, Winona Ryder in her prime (she was 19 at the time). What screen presence she had. Also fine performances from Cher, Bob Hoskins and a very young Christina Ricci (10 years old at the time). An interesting family drama

"DOC HOLLYWOOD" (1991)
Michael J. Fox plays a small town doctor trying to make it to a big city and cushy plastic surgeon's job gets detoured to a small town and has to perform community service or be thrown in jail for a traffic accident. Great fun with performances from Woody Harrelson, David Ogeden Stiers, Bridget Fonda, Barnard Hughes, and Julie Warner. There is also a brilliant cameo by George Hamilton. Good fun.

Charles Gilbert watched:

FOG ISLAND (1945) B&W. Ex con George Zucco invites Lionel Atwill and others to his island for a mystery. The mansion is rigged for the greedy visitors demise.

BIG JAKE (1971) Maureen O'Hara gets scant celluloid time as she summons estranged husband (the Duke) for help in rescuing his grandson from opportunistic Richard Boone and gang.

CHISUM (1970) Three members of the Mitchum clan ( not including Robert) make the roster in another bloated oater with John Wayne battling Forrest Tucker for dominance in the West.

TORTURE CHAMBER OF DR. SADISM (1967) This time it's Christopher Lee as Count Regula who comes back from the dead after 35 years to seek revenge for having been drawn and quartered for abusing youthful dames. Gallant Roger Mont Elise (Lex Barker), an aristocrat searching for his identity, is protagonist for the fair Lilian von Brabant (Karin Dor) on her way to see the remnants of the count at his castle. Sets are supremely mounted in gothic atmosphere, creepy crawlies abound. Highly recommended especially this time of year.

FORT DEFIANCE (1951) B&W. Dane Clark as an anti-hero doesn't appear in the film for about 45 minutes, but his reputation as a killer with a fast set of guns bodes trouble for his blind brother Ned (Peter Graves). Ned has befriended Ben Shelby (Ben Johnson) who has been hunting Johnny Tallon since the war for desertion. Their feud becomes interrupted by a range conflict.

Kung Fu S1E01 October 1972 "King of the Mountain" Child actor Brandon Cruz guest stars with John Saxon.
