Brain Teasers:

Which Italian Western ends in the English language version with "I'm scarier than you."?
It is SE SEI VIVO SPARA, aka DJANGO KILL!, aka IF YOU LIVE, SHOOT!

Which Italian Western appeared in the U.S. with a completely new theme song, not on the Italian version?
No one has answered this question yet.

Which Italian Western, with music by Riz Ortolani, came out in the U.S. with music added from a different Italian Western with music by Riz Ortolani?
Angel Rivera knew that it was UNA RAGIONE PER VIVERE E UNA PER MORIRE, aka A REASON TO LIVE A REASON TO DIE. In the U.S. version called MASSACRE AT FORT HOLMAN, various music cues from I GIORNI DELL'IRA, aka DAY OF ANGER were added to the soundtrack.

By what name is Ken Wood better known?
Angel Rivera knew that it is Giovanni Cianfriglia.

And now for some new brain teasers:

Which American actor, known for making gladiator movies, was once the president of the English Language Dubbers Association?
Which American actor played Pluto in an Italian Epic film?
Which Italian producer went from promoting the film career of one performer from Cuba, to promoting the career of a different Cuban performer?

I am interested in knowing what movies you have watched and what you enjoyed or not. So please send me an email at scinema@earthlink.net if you'd like to share. Here's what I watched last week:

Enjoyed:

Astrid et Raphaelle, aka Astrid, season four episode five (2023) "Madman's Sacrifice"

Mildly enjoyed:

World War II with Tom Hanks episode one and two (2026) - This was disappointing. The program started with the Nazi invasion of Poland, and then gave some background later building up to that invasion. While much was made about the German-Soviet Union Non Aggression Pact right before the Soviets joined the invasion of Poland, there was no mention of the fact that Stalin allowed the Nazi forces to prepare for war on Russian soil. And there was no mention of events in Asia at all - or a mention of the Italian Fascists in Africa. There was a slight allusion to Hitler's admiration of how the U.S. conquered the Native Americans.

Did not enjoy:

Great Performances IRVING BERLIN'S TOP HAT (2026) - The 1935 movie musical was turned into a stage play in the U.K. in 2011, and this production was shot for television in 2026. I am not a fan of old movie musicals because most of them have inane plots that I can't sit through. Having really enjoyed the production of ANYTHING GOES, which Great Performances aired in 2022, I decided to give this a try, and it was torture for me.

LITTLE NICKY (2000) - At the time this was the most expensive movie star Adam Sandler had made, and it was such a box office flop, that, reportedly, New Line President and COO Michael De Luca was asked to leave the company. It has the dubious distinction of being nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards, but losing all of them to BATTLEFIELD EARTH. Sandler is one of three sons of the Devil, played by Harvey Keitel. Sons Rhys Ifans and Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr. find out that Keitel is not going into retirement, and so head to Earth, freezing the entrance to Hell. With no new souls arriving, Keitel begins to disintegrate. It is up to Sandler to go to Earth, capture his two brothers in a magic flask and return everything to the normal balance of Good and Evil. None of the adventures Sandler has on Earth are funny, and some are downright disgusting. Many are augmented by special visual effects that aren't very impressive, but reportedly were rather expensive to film. Naturally, Sandler meets a nice girl, played by Patricia Arguette, and the film tosses in a flimsy love story. The film abounds with guest stars like Rodney Dangerfield, Kevin Nealon, Quentin Tarantino, Jon Lovitz, Michael McKean, John Witherspoon, Dana Carvey, Clint Howard, Dan Marino, Regis Philbin, Rob Schneider, George Wallace, Carl Weathers, Henry Winkler, Laura Harring and Reese Witherspoon as an angel that turns out to be Sandler's mother. Ozzy Osbourne appears as himself to save the day in the end. Writer/director Steven Brill got this gig after writing the three successful THE MIGHTY DUCKS movies. He shares the screenplay credit with frequent Sandler collaborator Tim Herlihy and Sandler. Sandler came back from this flop by trying something different with PUNCH DRUNK LOVE with director Paul Thomas Anderson.

THERE SHE GOES (2026) - This aired on Fox-TV on May 28, 2026, but because of various censored dialog bits, it was obviously not intended as a made-for-TV movie. Writer Seth Goldsmith and director Charles Hood give the audience a little "wink wink" by having Rachel Leigh Cook playing a woman who became a movie star in her youth, but now finds herself called "irrelevant", who decides in the end to do another "rom-com". THERE SHE GOES has just about every cliche you would expect in a old "rom-com", but fails to being any charm to the proceedings. Cook has accepted the marriage proposal of Ryan Hansen, until she goes back to her home town for her parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary, and runs into her high school boyfriend Utkarsh Ambudkar (of the TV series Ghosts).

Angel Rivera Highly enjoyed:

STAR TREK Episodes; "The Menagerie" Parts One & Two

Charles Gilbert watched:

SATURNALIA  (2025) Modern giallo depicting horror in an upscale prep school ruled by an imperious female blonde administrator named Miss Hemlock, who abuses the students. They refer to her as the bitch of Buchenwald. The most recent arrival ls rebellious, and furtively discovers something more diabolical done behind closed doors. The ending is a maelstrom of oneiric visuals as "the Whip" is eviscerated during a Satanist ritual. Not to be confused with the comedy with same title from 2022.

Hawaii Five O television. Three consecutive episodes:
V For Vashon: The Son S05E09 Robert Drivas plays Chris Vashon, the current generation son in a crime family, who, with his buddies, and to the disdain of his father, commits petty robberies for kicks. McGarrett has to shoot him in the end.
V For Vashon: The Father S05E10 The father Honore (Harold Gould) vows revenge on McGarrett for the death of his son, but winds up in prison for hiring an assassin ( (Don Knight).
V For Vashon: The Patriarch S05E11 Elder Dominick (Luther Adler) makes a last stab at targeting McGarrett. His demise is self-inflicted.

David Deal Enjoyed:

JOHNNY CASH'S AMERICA (08) - A good documentary on the man in black.
SECRET AGENT FIREBALL - Check the Eurospy Guide.
THE IRON SHERIFF (57)
WICHITA (55) - Everything goes in Wichita. Wyatt Earp (Joel McRea) begs to differ.
THE SECRET PARTNER (61)
RIDE LONESOME (59) - My favorite of the Scott/Boetticher westerns.
SMASH & GRAB (13) - Interesting documentary on the Pink Panthers, an organized gang of European jewelry thieves.
MURDER MY SWEET (45)
THE EARTH DIES SCREAMING (64)
THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (39)

Mildly enjoyed:

CLAWS OF IRON (51) - Once there was a man, a war veteran, who had been an assistant to an evil magician. He becomes a terrible killing "beast" after consuming alcohol. It's complicated, and not entirely decipherable. This Japanese production made a scant five years after WWII has a strange sensibility about it; Christianity plays a large part in the proceedings, and the youngsters have already adopted baseball as a pastime. A curio that will never make the big time but those looking for a post-war horror fix may find it of interest.
THE HUNTER WILL GET YOU (76)
ANDROMEDA NEBULA (67)
SLIDING DOORS (98)
