I am interested in knowing what movies you have watched and what you enjoyed or not. So please send me an email at scinema@earthlink.net if you'd like to share. Here's what I watched last week:

Mildly enjoyed:

Thomas & Friends "Thomas' Halloween Adventures" (2006) - I never watched any episode of Thomas the Tank Engine when it was on TV, but this DVD fell into my hands when my step-daughter's husband won a storage vault in an auction. Further evidence of the British enjoyment of stories told with miniatures, Thomas & Friends is not designed for a viewer like me, but the fact that each episode is so short made the viewing painless. With narrators like George Carlin, Alec Baldwin and Michael Brandon, these episode were fun. No one addressed the question of why if the train engines and think and talk, home come they need drivers and fire engineers?

Did not enjoy:

PLANET 51 (2009) - This animated film starts with a young couple at a make-out point at night suddenly surprised by a Space Ship. After a few minutes of WAR OF THE WORLDS type action, we see that the residents are not humans, but green extraterrestrials. Planet 51 is remarkably like the U.S.A. on Earth. Ronald & Ruby's 1958 tune "Lollipop", redone by Sophie Green, is heard on the soundtrack while the citizens of Glipfrog happily go about their day. At the movie theater is HUMANIACS II, in which a creature from outer space is turning people into zombies. So. when an American astronaut, voiced in the English version by Dwayne Johnson, arrives, the residents are convinced that he is the kind of extraterrestrial they fear most. Luckily a young resident, voiced in English by Justin Long, realizes that the stranger isn't dangerous and ends up helping him to get back to his Space Ship in orbit around the planet. The American also gives the young resident some pointers on wooing the female of his dreams, voiced in English by Jessica Biel. A majority Spanish production from Ilion Animation Studios - now Skydance Animation Madrid, this film was also co-produced by the British HandMade Films International. While it has a genuine respect for the Science Fiction of the 1950s, the film is a bit of a drag and it's an unfunny comedy. Also in the English voice cast are Gary Oldman, Seann William Scott, John Cleese and James Corden.

Angel Rivera Highly enjoyed:

"GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES' (1953)
The movie that most people remember MM for. "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend"! With Jane Russell too. A classic movie musical.

"ZATOICHI CHALLENGED" (1967)hi
Zatoichi comes to the aid of an artist forced to make pornographic pictures of royalty. Brings the artist the young son he did not know he sired. And with the love of a young woman, the artist can start a new life; except there is a samurai on government business who intends to administer the death penalty for the artist's involved in the crime. Zatoichi to the rescue in one of Zatoichi's most well matched opponents. A must see for Zatoichi fans.

Enjoyed:

"SOME LIKE IT HOT" (1959)
"Nobody's perfect!" Best final line of any comedy of manners.

"HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE" (1953)
Marilyn shines along with superstars,  Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall.

"FIVE ASHORE IN SINGAPORE" (1967)
Sean Flynn, son of Errol in hot water in this Eurospy action/adventure set in Singapore.

Mildly enjoyed:

"THE STREET FIGHTER" (1974)
Very bloody. Sonny Chiba sells a girl to get the money owed him. Then breaks bones left and right with lots of blood. This is no Bruce Lee.

David Deal Enjoyed:

CEMETERY WITHOUT CROSSES (69)
MARK OF THE TORTOISE (64)
STREET LAW (74)
BANDIDOS (68)
TIMECRIMES (07) From 2009: "Excellent time travel thriller from Spain.  Mind bending, scary, and amusing all at the same... time!"
THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (39)

Mildly enjoyed:

BLACK BELLY OF THE TARANTULA (71)
DEVIL'S EXPRESS (76) - There's a monster loose in the New York subway and only tough martial artist cop Warhawk Tanzania can put a stop to the madness. El cheapo kung fu knock off that only has a few horror elements to keep it afloat.
VANESSA (77) - From the director of "Has Anybody Seen My Pants?"
