I am interested in knowing what movies you have watched and what you enjoyed or not. So please send me an email at scinema@earthlink.net if you'd like to share. Here's what I watched last week:
Enjoyed:
Moon Knight (2022)
DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS (2022)
Ms. Marvel (2022)
THE PICTURE TAKER (2022) - Memphis based photographer Ernest Withers was celebrated for the pictures he took documenting Black people's struggle for Civil Rights. His reputation as an hero became complicated after his death when it was revealed that he was also an informant for the F.B.I.
Did not enjoy:
BREAKING (2022) - In 2017, Marine Corps veteran Brian Brown-Easley took two Wells Fargo bank employees hostage, saying that he had a bomb in his backpack. Upset at having the Department of Veterans Affairs withhold money due him, Brown-Easley felt he needed the public forum that creating an hostage situation would afford him. Inspired by the article "They Didn't Have To Kill Him" by Aaron Gell, co-writer and director Abi Damaris Corbin crafted a dour drama in which John Boyega convincingly portrays a desperate man who wins the sympathy of everyone around him while creating a situation in which his prediction that he was going to be killed by the police was fulfilled. Aside from telling a tragic story and criticizing the DVA, the film seemed pointless aside from giving some actors the opportunity to shine. The film is dedicated to Michael Kenneth Williams, who died before it was released.
THE LEGEND OF KUNG FU RABBIT, aka LEGEND OF A RABBIT (2011) - The idea that this film by the president of the Beijing Film Academy, Sun Yijun, was a Chinese reaction to the world-wide success of KUNG FU PANDA seemed supported by the fact that the villain in this film was a Panda. While the film was considered a box office failure in China, the fact that it got a release in 80 countries and was even dubbed into English for a release in the U.S. was considered a success and a breakthrough for the Chinese animation industry. The script followed the usual old-school kung fu plot, and seeing martial arts performed by animated animals instead of people, made for a rather dull viewing experience. After being fed-up with Miramax slapping Carl Douglas' song "Kung Fu Fighting" on the back end of so many Jackie Chan movies, fans may have mixed reactions to a cover version of the song done by Aron Davis being slapped on to the back end of this movie. A sequel, LEGEND OF A RABBIT: THE MARTIAL OF FIRE, came out in 2015, and a third film was announced.

Charles Gilbert watched:
LADY DRAGON 2 (1992) Originally titled ANGEL OF FURY. Bizarre, sometimes macabre atmosphere accompanies the tribulations of a female martial artist and her soccer star husband in Jakarta, Indonesia. Diamond thieves (Billy Drago and Sam Jones) torment the young married couple knowing the husband possesses a stach for humanitarian/patriotic purpose. Ms. Rothrock has looked better in her fighting form. Never understood why, after playing an heroic Flash Gordon that Sam Jones fell into heavy roles.
Walker, Texas Ranger "The Principal" James Remar plays a corrupt teacher dealing drugs via impressionable students. He kills the principal who becomes wise,, so Walker (Chuck Norris) goes undercover as replacement. John Jacobs and the Power team guest star. This Christian influencer group of strong men disbanded shortly after filming when Jacobs became greedy, divorcing his wife.
FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE 1965 Cast Then and Now (57 years after). Of the 15 cast members Clint remains the only survivor. Western Celebs on Youtube.
PATTERNS (1956) Rod Serling created this tale of corporate strife occuring at the Ramsie business firm in Manhattan. Stars Everett Sloan Van Heflin, and Ed Begley.

David Deal Enjoyed:
VAMPIRE CIRCUS (72)
THE SLAVE (69)
POLICE STORY (85)
SHADOW OF ILLUSION (72)
PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES (65)
HEY AMIGO A TOAST TO YOUR DEATH (71) - When the stagecoach is robbed in the middle of his town, Wayde Preston vows to track down Rik Battaglia and his gang and "kill them all." And he does. Simply plotted but stylishly told spaghetti from Paolo Biancini is likeable enough.
SOYLENT GREEN (73)
THE FIFTH CORD (71)
THE TORTURE CHAMBER OF DR. SADISM (67)
THEM (54)
NAKED DAWN (55) - Amiable thief Arthur Kennedy involves a young man and his wife in fencing some stolen property. The alliance proves fateful for all. Shot on the cheap in Mexico, Edgar Ulmer's tale of small time crime has big consequences for its characters and Kennedy's rogue is priceless. Recommended.
THE BELIEVERS (87)
SUNSHINE (07)
NAKED FURY (59) - During a heist, the gang is forced to take an unexpected visitor as hostage because she knows too much. The gang go back to their lives, taking turns watching the hostage until their getaway to South America comes thru. Things go decidedly wrong from there. Small Brit crime is an entertaining watch as everything comes unraveled for the boys until the unexpected ending.
THE TERRIBLE PEOPLE (60)
IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE (58)
Mildly enjoyed:
URSUS IN THE VALLEY OF THE LIONS (61) - Abandoned as a child, Ursus (Ed Fury) is raised by lions. When he learns he is the rightful heir to the throne, he must defeat Alberto Lupo and his evil queen Moira Orfei to regain his kingdom. Third tier peplum with many animals and long periods of boredom.
FEAST OF FLESH (67)
THE MISSING LADY (46) - Kane Richmond is Lamont Cranston AKA The Shadow and he's after the title's lady; a 700 year-old jade statue. And people keep getting murdered for it! Sophomoric take on the famous radio character with the typical dumb cops, snappy sidekicks, and plenty of dames around. Skip it.
THE DESERTER (71) - Bekim Fehmiu deserts the army after his wife is killed by the Apache, and spends the next couple of years riding the desert and killing Apache in revenge. He is called back by General John Huston to lead some men in a raid of The Devil's Backbone, a hellscape desert to quell the Apache uprisings. Not a bad spaghetti western in the Dirty Dozen mode but lead Fehmiu is a dud. The rest of the cast is solid and with a charismatic lead it might not have been better but it would have been more fun. Features Richard Crenna, Chuck Connors, Ricardo Montalban. Slim Pickins, Woody Strode, among others.
NEXT OF KIN (82)
THE MYSTERIOUS MR. VALENTINE (46) - When Linda Stirling sideswipes the car of PI William Henry, he is drawn into a mystery involving the murder of an owner of a chemical plant and a kidnapping plot led by a Mr. Valentine. Breezy mystery blows by without much impact, other than the charm of Stirling and the menace of supporter Virginia Christine.
HALFWAY TO SHANGHAI (42)

"The Quatermass Xperiment "(1955) aka "The Creeping Unknown Still a well made thriller with sci-fi overtones.
"The Temple of the White Elephant"(1964/1966) Sean Flynn and Mimmo Palmara save captives of a cult of murderers who worship a white elephant. Lots of action.
